*Corporations will only show on the record of the responsible OD, most often the President. If you don't see your corporation in your file to renew, please call the Board Office.
We hope this memo finds you well. This communication alerts you to changes in your license renewal deadlines that align Optometry with health care standards and insurance provider requirements. These amendments were recently made to N.C.G.S. 90-118.10, “Annual Renewal of Licenses”. Here are the changes you should be aware of:
Expiration Date of License: Historically, licenses could be renewed until March 31st of the year following expiration. This will no longer be permitted under the law. Licenses are now required to be renewed on or before December 31st without a late fee.
Late Renewal Fee: If the application for renewal and required fee is not received before January 1 of each year, an additional fee of $50.00 shall be required for late renewal.
License Delinquent and Renewable: A license goes into this category when not renewed by February 1st of the year following expiration. Every person continuing to practice after January 31st without having renewed their license shall be guilty of the unauthorized practice and subject to the penalties prescribed in N.C.G.S. 90-118.11.
Expired: If a Delinquent License is not appropriately renewed by December 31 of that year (one calendar year after date of expiration), that license will permanently expire and will not be eligible for renewal.
The above applies to both Active and Inactive Licenses as defined in the Board’s Classification of Licenses Policy,
Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the Board office.
Mailed payments will be accepted but are not preferred. Additionally, you must be aware of the fact that based on the updates to NCGS 90-118.10, all renewals must be received, including payment, before the December 31st deadline (January 1 through January 31 renewals will have a $50 penalty), or February 1st deadline (After February 1st, if your license has not been renewed and payment received, you will be guilty of the unauthorized practice of Optometry). If you have any questions, please reach out to the Board at info@ncoptometry.org or 910-285-3160
Process payment online through Official Payments. For each transaction, you will see two charges to your payment method, one for renewing your license and another for the associated processing fees. Those fees are as follows (updated May 1, 2022):
eCheck payments - $2.26 per transaction
Credit/Debit Card payments - 3.7% of the payment amount
If you have any questions about online renewals, please contact the board staff at info@ncoptometry.org or 910-285-3160
