The schedule of examinations through 2025 has been approved by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry. The examination dates may be expanded or contracted depending upon the number of applications received by the Board for that particular examination.
The scheduling of the winter examinations is conditioned upon the number of applicants for the examination. If there are less then ten (10) eligible applicants on the date of the application deadline, the applicants will be deferred until the next regularly scheduled examination.
2026, August 7–12
Application Submission Deadline, 60-days prior to Exam: June 8th
Completed Application Deadline, 30-days prior to Exam: July 8th
In order to have your NBEO results back in time for the second deadline, you must have taken the NBEO within the month of May.
2027, February: Thursday, Feb 18 – Sunday, Feb 21
Application Submission Deadline, 60-days prior to Exam: December 21st (60 days prior is 12/20/2026, which is a Sunday, so moved to Monday)
Completed Application Deadline, 30-days prior to Exam: January 19th
