BOARD & COPE DEFINITIONS:

Synchronous In-Person - Instructor in the same physical location as the attendee*
(Exception: The Board will grant In-person CE credit when an NC District Society has a formal meeting and they bring in a virtual speaker. Conditions that apply are that the speaker is interactive and can see the audience, and the program attendance is monitored.) With Board prior approval, this could also apply to other formal CE events where the attendees are gathered and COPE or equivalently accredited CE is offered.
Synchronous Virtual - Typically, the licensees are attending virtually, such as in their home, not in a formal CE event environment. It is a live presentation where the attendees can interact (ask questions) with the instructor.* Synchronous Virtual COPE accredited education meets the requirement for “live” but not in-person education; however, the type of credit (general or certified) must still meet the Board's criteria.
(*) Qualifies for Certified Credit - if in medically related subject matter - see definition of certified credit
ASYNCHRONOUS: Not Live and/or Interactive, such as webinars. Previously known as CC, Enduring or Correspondence. The type of credit allowed for Asynchronous (self-study) courses is “General Credit”. Further, credit for these types of courses will be credited toward the yearly requirement for the calendar year in which they were published/offered.
